The DD50 Rice Management Program (https://dd50.uaex.edu) has a new update thanks to support from Arkansas rice growers through the Arkansas Rice Check-Off and the Information Technology team at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
Those enrolling fields in DD50 can now choose to receive text message and/or email alerts when fields near critical growth stage timings.
When you sign up, you will receive an alert 7 days before a field reaches each of these key timings:
- End of Optimum Nitrogen Window
- Final Time to Incorporate Preflood N
- Beginning Internode Elongation (Green Ring)
- 50% Heading
- Near Drain Timing
- Approximate Time of 20% Grain Moisture
To sign up for alerts, access the Producer Information Screen (Fig. 1) after you log in. At the bottom you can check the box to receive email alerts. You can also check the box to receive SMS (text message) alerts. If you elect to receive text messages you will be asked to enter your cell phone number.
Fields that are already past any key dates at the time of sign up will not send alerts for those past dates, only future dates. For instance if you have a field that will be at Green Ring in the next few days and you sign up today, you will not be sent an alert. Only upcoming alerts at least 7 days out will begin to send. Alerts will be generated at 9 a.m. each day for those fields that have a key timing projected to occur in 7 days. A single alert will be sent for each for each field for each timing listed above. Fig. 2 is an example of a text message alert. Email messages will be similar in appearance.
