The past week for Arkansas No. 2 Yellow Corn Cash Market saw price fall 6 cents over the weekend to open trading. The market posted a gain on Tuesday, but declined through the remainder of the week before stabilizing on Friday (Figure 1). The market opened on Monday at a statewide average of $3.98, a 6 cent decline from both the previous week opening day and previous week closing average. Price climbed on Tuesday to the weekly high of $4.03 before giving back the gain and more to close on Friday at a statewide average of $3.96, an overall loss of 8 cents from the previous week close. Highest daily individual market price for the past week was $4.15 at Pine Bluff on Tuesday. Low quote of the week was $3.70 at Little Rock on Thursday. Closing prices on Friday ranged from a low of $3.71 at Little Rock to a high of $4.06 at Pine Bluff. The closing range of 35 cents was 2 cents narrower than the previous week. Seven markets provided price quotes each trading day of the past week.
January cash trading in 2019 crop yellow corn began the month with great uncertainty as USDA-AMS published no reports from December 20-January 1. The first weekly report of 2020 on January 2 saw the market with a statewide average of $4.02, 9 cents above the last December 2019 quote. The market traded on generally a steady trend throughout the month with only a 20 cent overall spread from highest to lowest individual daily average (Figure 2). The last trading report of the month occured on January 31 at $3.96, an overall improvement of 3 cents from the last daily average in December. High individual daily market quote of the month was $4.19 at West Memphis on January 23. The low individual daily market quote was $3.66 at Little Rock on January 16. The overall statewide average for January was $4.00 for the 2019 crop No. 2 yellow corn, an improvement of 14 cents from the 2019 crop average in December 2019.
