2019 Arkansas Cotton Variety Testing Program Update: Two-Year Averages
Author: Bill Robertson, Cotton Agronomist

By Bill Robertson, Extension Cotton Agronomist; and Fred Bourland, UA System Division of Agriculture Cotton Breeder

We strive to release yield information as quickly as possible to allow for unbiased comparisons to assist in the variety selection process for next year.  Seed providers are encouraging producers to book seed now.  Early booking does often increase the likelihood of availability of some of our most popular varieties.

Lint yields were recently posted from our county testing program evaluating 11 varieties at 10 locations.  While Dr. Fred Bourland is still compiling data for the 2019 Arkansas OVT, we want to make preliminary two-year yield data available to assist Arkansas decision makers in their variety selection process. Download the pdf of the preliminary data summary below:

There are a number of unbiased information sources available to assist in selecting new varieties.  Our primary source is the University Variety Testing Program.  Complete tables (with yield, maturity, fiber quality, host plant resistance and plant pubescence data) for the 2019 Arkansas Transgenic Cotton Variety should be posted early next week at

Contact your local county Extension agent for assistance in obtaining or interpreting variety performance data and to get the date and location of upcoming county production meetings.
