Rice Research Verification Program Update – July 19, 2019
Author: Ron Baker, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinator

By Ralph Mazzanti and Ron Baker, RRVP Coordinators

In the south, the Jefferson County field is at the 75% heading stage and stink bugs reached threshold levels. Sheath blight is also building in several fields yet has not reached threshold levels. Rainfall amounts from Tropical Storm Barry range from 7.9” in Arkansas County to 5.6” in Monroe County.

In the north, rainfall ranged from 2.5 to 4.6 inches in program fields. Higher temperatures have accelerated growth considerably. Randolph reached 75% heading and quickly exceeded the rice stink bug treatment threshold. Sheath blight infection still remains low at this point.
