The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service resumed daily reporting of grain prices for Arkansas in the past week after government shutdown uncertainty stabilized. The Arkansas 2018 Crop Soybean Market gained 19 cents from the last report on January 3 before spending the week moving generally lower (Figure 1). The market opened on Monday at a statewide average of $8.90 per bushel. A 5 cent loss on Tuesday was exactly recovered on Wednesday, but a 19 cent Thursday loss was not reclaimed. The market closed on Friday at $8.74, an overall 3 cent gain from the prior week’s last report on Thursday. High daily individual market price of the past week was $9.12 at Helena on Wednesday. Low quote for the week was $8.35 on Thursday at Wynne. End-of-the-week quotes saw the Friday closing day prices ranging from a low of $8.38 at Wynne to a high of $8.88 at both Blytheville and Osceola. The ending quotes represented a range of 50 cents, much narrower than the 69 cent range from the previous Thursday, the last report prior to the past week. Eleven markets submitted price quotes each day of the week.
The Arkansas 2019 Crop Soybean Market gained 13 cents over the last published report on January 3. A Tuesday loss of 3 cents was reclaimed with a gain 5 cent gain on Wednesday, but further losses on Thursday could not be overcome to end trading for the week (Figure 2). Price opened trading on Monday at a statewide average of $9.22 per bushel. The market rose to $9.24 on Wednesday before declining to a Friday close of $9.13, an overall 4 cent improvement from Thursday, January 3, the last report of the previous week. High daily individual market quote of the past week was $9.43 on Wednesday at Helena. Low quote of the week was $8.95 on Thursday at Jonesboro, Wheatley, and Des Arc. End-of-the-week quotes saw the Friday closing day prices ranging from a low of $8.99 at Jonesboro, Wheatley, and Des Arc to a high of $9.31 at Osceola. The ending quotes represented a range of 32 cents, just 1 cent narrower than the ending range of the last report on Thursday of the previous week. The market received price quotes each day from ten locations across the state.
