By Ralph Mazzanti and Ron Baker, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinators
In the south, four fields have been harvested ahead of Tropical Depression Gordon. Rainfall as of 9/7 has been from 3” in the Pine Bluff area to 0.5” in the Lake Village area. Three hybrid fields, Chicot, Lonoke, and Clark were over 200 bu/acre. The Desha Co. field has been harvested and we should have final calculations Monday.
In the north, it looks like the recent rains will force harvest to take place in the mud for most program fields since 7 of the 8 are now mature and waiting for harvest. Only Woodruff is still maturing but it too is expected to be ready for the combine within 2-3 weeks. Rice stink bugs are no longer an economic threat in this field.
