Arkansas soybean market report for May 21-25, 2018

The Arkansas 2017 Crop Soybean Cash Market gained 26 cents over the past weekend and steadily added on more gains throughout the week.  The market opened trading on Monday at a statewide average of $10.15, 8 cents over the previous Monday opening price.  Price climbed higher four of the five days to a Friday closing statewide average of $10.32, an overall gain of 43 cents from the previous week Friday close (Figure 1).  High daily individual market price over the past week was $10.54 at West Memphis and Old Town/Elaine on Friday.  Low quote of the week was $9.90 at Wynne on Monday.  End-of-the-week quotes saw Friday closing day prices ranging from a $10.07 low at Wynne to the high of $10.54 at West Memphis and Old Town/Elaine.  The ending quotes represented a range of 47 cents, 2 cents wider than the previous week closing range.  Eleven individual markets were providing price quotations at the end of the week as Osceola resumed submitting quotes.

The Arkansas 2018 New Crop Soybean market continues to follow the old crop bean price very closely. The new crop gained 25 cents over the weekend and opened on Monday at a statewide average of $10.15, a 9 cent rise from the previous Monday.  Price generally rose each day of the trading week and finished at a Friday closing statewide average of $10.37, a gain of 47 cents from the previous Friday price (Figure 2).  The high daily individual market price over the past week for the 2018 crop was $10.54 at Helena on Friday.  Low quote of the week was $10.00 at Wynne on Monday.  End-of-the-week quotes saw the Friday closing day prices ranging from a low of $10.20 at Wynne to the high of $10.54 at Helena.  The ending quotes represented a 34 cent range, an increase of 4 cents over the previous week closing range.  Thirteen markets continued to provide booking price quotations throughout the week on 2018 soybeans.
