Arkansas soybean market report for Dec. 4-8, 2017

The Arkansas 2017 Crop Soybean Cash Market gained 7 cents over the past weekend and opened on Monday at a $9.81 statewide average, 9 cents above the previous Monday opening price.  The market moved higher on Tuesday, gaining 9 additional cents, before entering a decline that extended through the remainder of the week.  Trading closed on Friday at a $9.71 statewide average, a 3 cent overall loss from the previous week closing price (Figure 1).  High daily individual market price over the past week was $10.07.  Oddly, the quote was seen on Monday at Osceola and again on Tuesday at Helena.  The low quote of the week was $9.59 at Wynne on Monday.  End-of-the-week quotes saw Friday closing day prices ranging from a low of $9.60 at Jonesboro, Wynne, and Des Arc to a high of $9.89 at Osceola.  The ending quotes represented a range of only 29 cents, a 5 cent narrowing from the previous week closing range.  Thirteen individual markets are currently providing price quotations on old crop soybeans.

The Arkansas 2018 New Crop Soybean market gained 3 cents over the weekend and opened on the past Monday at $9.91, 6 cents above the previous Monday opening price.  The market posted a 7 cent gain on Tuesday before entering a decline that extended over all remaining trading days.  Trading closed on Friday at a $9.84 statewide average, 4 cents under the previous week closing price (Figure 2).  High daily individual market price over the past week was $10.13 at Osceola on Tuesday, with West Memphis 1 cent below on the same day.  The low quote of the period was $9.71 at both Jonesboro and Des Arc on Thursday and Friday.  End-of-the-week quotes saw the Friday closing day prices ranging from the low of $9.71 at Jonesboro and Des Arc to a high of exactly $10.00 at West Memphis.  The ending quotes represented a range of only 29 cents, a 5 cent narrowing from the previous week closing range.  Nine individual markets are now providing price quotations on 2018 soybeans.
