Author: Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Coordinator

By Ron Baker and Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinators

South Arkansas:  Rainfall amounts have been from 4” in Lafayette County to 3.4” in Desha County hindering harvest.  Four fields are mature and ready for samples to be cut after some dry weather.  Prairie County cut a sample and the moisture was 24%.  The other six fields are draining and are from medium to hard dough to maturing.  No fields were sprayed this past week for stink bugs and numbers continue to be low.  Several fields are approaching the pre-harvest interval for insecticides.

North Arkansas: Seven fields are draining and continuing to mature at a good pace. All fields remain standing well even after heavy rains this week. Only Randolph remains significantly susceptible to rice stink bug damage in the event numbers rapidly increase but the count this week is still well below the threshold for treatment.  Disease pressure remains very light in all fields.
