Arkansas soybean market report for August 14-18, 2017

The Arkansas 2016 Soybean Cash Market suffered an 8 cent weekend loss that continued through Tuesday before the market turned around and finished strong over the final two trading days to end the short week.  The weekend loss placed the Monday opening statewide average at $9.40, a 31 cent fall from the previous Monday average.  The continued decline on Tuesday took price to its low of the week at $9.29 before beans rallied on the final two days to a Thursday statewide average of $9.39, an overall 9 cent decline from the previous Friday closing mark (Figure 1).  High daily individual market price of the past week was observed on Thursday with Osceola at $9.51.  Low quote for the week was found at Little Rock on Tuesday with an average of $9.14.  End-of-the-week reported quotes on Thursday from the five reporting markets showed prices ranging from a low of $9.25 at Little Rock to the high of $9.51 at Osceola.  The extreme ending quotes covered a range of 26 cents, returning the 1 cent lost in the previous week by the closing spread.

The Arkansas 2017 New Crop Soybean Market suffered a 7 cent weekend loss that extended through Tuesday before the market turned around and finished strong to end the week.  The weekend loss placed the Monday opening statewide average at $9.31, a 30 cent fall from the previous Monday average.  The continued decline on Tuesday took price to its low of the week at $9.18, but beans rallied on the final two days of the short trading week to a Thursday statewide average of $9.28, an overall 10 cent decline from the previous Friday closing mark (Figure 2).  High daily individual market price of the past week was $9.50, observed on Monday at Helena.  Low quote for the week was seen on Tuesday at Jonesboro with an average of $8.93.  End-of-the-week quotes saw the Thursday closing day prices ranging from a low of $9.05 at Jonesboro and Des Arc to a high of $9.49 at Helena.  The ending quotes represented a range of 44 cents, a 4 cent widening from the previous week closing range.
