Rice Research Verification Program Update for July 14, 2017
Author: Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Coordinator

By Ron Baker and Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinators

South Arkansas:  Rice stink bugs are increasing across the southern part of the state.  The three fields reaching treatment levels this past week were Lafayette, Lincoln and Prairie Counties.  Prairie County is getting close to the second rice stink bug threshold.  Desha County has received its kernel smut prevention treatment and Clark County is scheduled for an application.  The positive stops for sheath blight remains at low levels.

North Arkansas: All fields have progressed very rapidly. Seven of eight have reached varying stages of boot. Late boot urea applications for hybrids have been made in Jackson, White and Conway Counties.  Preventative applications for rice blast and the smut diseases have been scheduled in susceptible fields. No treatments have been needed for sheath blight at this time.
