Rice Research Verification Program Update for July 7, 2017
Author: Ron Baker, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinator

By Ron Baker and Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinators

South Arkansas:  With the favorable weather conditions rice blast has been detected in the Clark County field.  Stink bugs are close to threshold levels in the Lincoln and Prairie County fields which were the first to reach heading.  Increased stink bug numbers are mostly around the edges of Prairie while those in Lincoln are scattered on weedy rice.  Sheath blight has been at low levels so far.  Irrigation pumping has been extremely low.  Other than an initial flood the Lincoln County flowmeter reading has not moved since 5/13.

North Arkansas:   Weather conditions this week combined with the current growth stage of most fields have created a more favorable environment for sheath blight.  A positive check or two around field edges where the grain drill overlapped confirms the disease is present in a few cases and will need to be closely monitored but, so far, no program field has reached treatment level even around the edges.
