Market outlook with supply and demand for field crops – December 2016
Author: Archie Flanders, Extension Economist

By Archie Flanders, Agricultural Economist

The December report for the supply and demand situation of field crops maintains market fundamentals that are resulting in expectations of low commodity prices for the 2017 crop year. Supplies have historical cycles above and below equilibrium, and low crop price projections are following corresponding trends of markets with excess supply. Preliminary analysis for Cooperative Extension Service 2017 crop enterprise budgets indicates field input prices are approximately equal to spring 2016 prices. Diesel fuel prices are currently 40-50 cents per gallon higher than spring 2016 prices. Crop enterprise budgets for 2017 are scheduled for posting by December 15, 2016 at http://www.uaex.edu/crop-budgets
