October supply and demand for field crops
Author: Archie Flanders, Extension Economist

By Archie Flanders, Agricultural Economist

The October report for the supply and demand situation of field crops maintains market fundamentals that are resulting in low commodity prices. Supplies have historical cycles above and below equilibrium, and currently low crop prices are following corresponding trends of markets with excess supply. Revised USDA October data for peanuts has decreased ending stocks projections for the current market year. This could increase the availability of contracts at favorable prices for planting in 2017. According to crop enterprise budgets, only peanut prices are currently greater than total production costs, including land. More current supply and demand information – October 2016
