By Archie Flanders, Agricultural Economist
Reported September field crop yield forecasts by the National Agricultural Statistics Service reflect August flooding in many Arkansas regions. September yields are only reported as state averages. Thus, September state level forecasts mask the severity of flood impacts in some counties. The NASS report indicates that yields for corn, grain sorghum, and rice are lower than August forecasts for these crops. Yield forecasts for cotton and soybeans are higher than forecasts for the previous month, before flooding. Hay yield is not reported in the September report.
