By Ron Baker and Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Program Coordinators
South Arkansas: With several days of rain in the forecast starting this weekend the harvest will be delayed in Jefferson and Lincoln Counties. The Phillips County field is approaching 75% heading and (RSB) numbers are extremely low as of now. Rice stink bugs are not an issue in all other fields. According to the DD50 Program, Arkansas County is scheduled to drain on 8/10. Desha, Chicot and Ashley Counties are scheduled to drain next week.
North Arkansas: Only Cross, Lawrence, and White Counties still require a flood on the field and continue to be checked for rice stink bug populations. So far they have remained below the treatment threshold for RSB. All other program fields are now drained and drying down for harvest. Conway County is expected to be harvested first and should be ready within a week.
