Arkansas soybean market report – July monthly summary

July trading in old crop (2015) soybeans moved lower through most of the month with only short-term rallies in the second week and final weeks (Figure 1).  The old crop market opened on July 5 at $11.28 following the July 4th holiday weekend and closed with a statewide average on July 28 of $10.15, a decrease of $1.13 and a $1.57 decline in total from the June 30 closing price.  High daily statewide average was the $11.32 on July 13.  The high individual daily market quote also occurred on July 13 with Helena at $11.63.  The low individual daily market quote occurred on July 25 with Wynne at $9.45.  Overall statewide average for the month was $10.70 for old crop soybeans, a decline of 66 cents from the June average.

July trading in new crop (2016) soybeans generally followed the old crop (2015) pattern, but a prices 33-46 cents lower.  The markets also moved closer in price as trade entered the final week of July (Figure 4).  The market opened on July 5 at $10.82 and closed with a statewide average on July 28 of $9.82, a decrease of exactly $1.00 for the month and $1.75 in total from the June 30 closing price.  High daily statewide average for new beans was $11.08 on July 13, the only day when the statewide average exceeded $11.00.  The high individual daily market quote also occurred on July 13 with Helena at $11.31.  The low individual daily market quote occurred on July 25 with both Des Arc and Wynne at $9.46.  Overall statewide average for the month was $10.37, a decline of 86 cents from the overall June average.
