Arkansas soybean market report for May 4-8, 2015

A 10 cent gain of the weekend prior to this past trading week put the 2014 Arkansas Cash Soybean market at a Monday opening statewide average of $9.87. Price continued higher on Tuesday and flirted with the $10.00 level before entering a decline that persisted through the remaining trading days. The late week decline left the Friday statewide average at $9.85, an improvement of 8 cents from the previous Friday closing price (Figure 1). High individual daily market quote of the past week was $10.19 for the second straight week. This week, Osceola was the location with the high occurring on Tuesday. Low daily quote of the week occurred on Monday with Wynne reporting $9.64. Thirteen markets provided price quotes each day of the past week with as Pine Bluff resumed reports and only Helena was absent. Friday closing prices to end the week ranged from a $9.67 low at Wynne to a $10.06 high at Blytheville, West Memphis, and Osceola. These end-of-week quotes left the market price range at 39 cents, a 10 cent contraction from the previous week closing range.

The 2015 soybean crop booking market gained 9 cents over the weekend preceding the past trading week and continued to slowly gain to a midweek high statewide average on Wednesday of $9.46. Price then moved sharply lower on Thursday before leveling off to close out the week (Figure 2). Friday statewide closing average price was $9.42, a 12 cent gain from the previous end of week quote. High individual market quote for the immediate past week was $9.64 at West Memphis on Wednesday. Low market quote for the week occurred on Monday with $9.19 reported at both Wynne and Des Arc. Fourteen markets continued to provide new crop quotes. End-of-the-week quotes saw market prices ranging from a $9.22 low at both Wynne and Des Arc to a high of $9.60 at West Memphis. These ending quotes represented a range of 38 cents, unchanged from the previous week closing quotes range.
