This week was shortened by the Columbus Day holiday on Monday. The extended weekend gave the market a longer period to react and it responded with a 52 cent gain on the 2014 crop. The market posted a statewide average of $9.69 on Tuesday. Price then proceeded to fluctuate within a 14 cent band before closing on Friday at $9.62, an overall 45 cent gain from the previous Friday closing mark (Figure 1). High individual daily market quote for the week was $10.07 at Old Town/Elaine on Thursday. The Old Town/Elaine market had reached an even $10.00 on Tuesday and West Memphis posted a $10.01 average on Thursday. These were the only daily averages at or above $10.00 and the first such reports since mid-September. The low was $9.13 on Wednesday at Wynne. Price quotes for the week were received from thirteen markets as Helena remained absent. The Friday closing price ranged from a low of $9.27 at Wynne to a high of $9.92 at Old Town/Elaine. These end-of-week quotes put the market price range at 65 cents, a 2 cent contraction from the previous week.
