Rice Research Verification Program update for September 9, 2014
Author: Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Coordinator

Harvest has begun and yields are slowly coming in. The Chicot County field was the first harvested and the yield was 188 bu/acre. The average moisture was 21.6%. The grower was pleased due to the fact this was a fresh cut field. His comment was the yield monitor varied 50 bu/acre. This variance was between fill and cut areas. There are five out of fifteen fields that have been harvested or in the process of being harvested. Those fields include Arkansas, Chicot, Desha, Prairie, and Lawrence Counties. Nine fields are draining. The Monroe County field should be drained this week. Uneven heading in the field called for 5-7 days pumping past the DD-50.
