Rice research verification program update for July 18, 2014
Author: Ralph Mazzanti, Rice Research Verification Coordinator

South Arkansas:
The cooler temperatures during heading and grain fill should help yield and quality. On the other hand, rainfall and overcast weather can alter flowering and is a favorable environment for disease.  The Jefferson County field is at ½” internode and was treated for FAW numbering anywhere from 8-25 per sq. ft.  RSB are on the increase where fields are heading.  There are three fields at 50% heading, two fields at late boot, two fields at mid-boot and three at ½” IE.  Minimal sheath blight has been detected with not much progression as of now.  No blast or BPB has been observed at this time.
North Arkansas:
Four fields remain in the North Arkansas program and range from ½ “ IE in White County to early heading in Lawrence County.  Data is still being collected to provide a complete report at a later date.  What can be said at this time is that no insects, weeds or diseases are problematic this week and that the fields in all 4 counties (Clay, Lawrence, White and Yell) are clean, healthy and progressing normally.
