August 2nd promises to be an action-packed day filled with activities and information for the entire family at the 2013 Arkansas Rice Expo at the Grand Prairie Center in Stuttgart. The expo will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with registration and exhibits. Field tours by U of A Division of Agriculture specialists begin at 8:30 a.m. and run concurrently with a virtual field tour presented in the auditorium, a raised bed gardening presentation by Janet Carson, a rice recipe contest, youth STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities, family seminars, a rice cooking demonstration, agriculture seminars, and mobile technology (iPad and apps) seminars. At 11:00, everyone rejoins for business sessions featuring presentations from our state’s promotion board representatives and the USDA-ARS, and the Vice President for Agriculture, Dr. Mark Cochran, will give a report on the U of A Division of Agriculture. The Honorable Senator Mark Pryor will deliver the keynote address before lunch is served, and Ms. Betsy Ward from the USA Federation will be our luncheon speaker. There will be over 50 exhibits displayed for those interested in agriculture, youth activities, family living, and horticulture, and many interactive opportunities for all ages and interests.
