An 8 cent gain over the weekend followed by two increasingly strong trading days put the Arkansas 2012 cash soybean market over the $15.00 mark on Wednesday before losing steam in the final two days of the week (Figure 1). The closing Friday average of $14.93 was 24 cents above the prior Friday closing mark. Highest individual daily market price for the week was $15.41 at Old Town/Elaine on Wednesday. Thirteen of the fourteen markets submitted individual daily market quotes each day with Blytheville finally resuming its reporting on Friday. The low individual daily price was $14.34 on Tuesday at Augusta. Individual market quotes on the last trading day ranged from a low of $14.51 at Augusta to a high of $15.14 at Helena. Seven of the fourteen markets finished the week above the $15.00 level. The closing day price spread contracted rather dramatically to 63 cents from the 86 cent range of the previous Friday, a 17 cent narrowing from the prior week range.
The 2013 New Crop Booking Price market opened on Monday with a $13.10 statewide average, 13 cents above the previous Friday closing average (Figure 2). The statewide average lost 2 cents on the second trading day before surging to the weekly high of $13.32 on Wednesday. After a 5 cent retreat on Thursday, the market regained all of its losses and closed the week exactly on the $13.32 high, a 35 cent improvement from the prior Friday close. High individual daily market average for the week was $13.58 at both Helena and Old Town/Elaine on Friday. Lowest individual daily quote was $12.70 reported at Wynne on Monday. All fourteen state markets continued to provide New Crop Booking quotes. The last day of trading quotes found all state markets above the $13.00 level. Reported market prices ranged from a $13.08 low at both Des Arc and Wynne to the high of $13.58 at both Helena and Old Town/Elaine. These quotes put the statewide closing day price range at 50 cents, 10 cents narrower than the previous end-of-week range.
