All the Rice Verification fields have been planted except Desha County. Several fields are spiking and the high wind has depleted moisture. Cool night temperatures have slowed down emergence, but warmer weather has arrived. The high wind this week has planes grounded from much needed herbicide applications. Only one postemergence application has been applied by ground in Phillips County. Preemergence herbicides like Command caught some rain in areas and reached back on some grass but also injured some rice. In other cases, the Command never got activated. The long term forecast is for little to no rainfall. Ammonium sulfate is going out on several fields. Growers are scrambling to flush fields for activation and uniform emergence.
