The 2012 corn research verification fields were planted between March 27 and April 4 with an average planting date of March 30. In 2011, fields were planted between March 21 and May 12, with an average planting date of April 10. Emergence has been around 5 or 6 days after planting, whereas in 2011, the period for emergence averaged 9 days. The corn is off to a really good start, and hopefully conditions will stay favorable for the rest of the year. Stand counts will be taken this week on all the fields.
The 2012 grain sorghum verification fields were planted on March 29 and April 2. In 2011, the fields were planted on April 8 and April 10. The grain sorghum fields should be emerging soon and stand counts taken this week. Dual was put out on both fields, and both fields were cruiser treated.
