Author: Arkansas Row Crops

General Comments: All of the verification fields have reached cut-out. This week the agents and I will be looking closely at each field to determine irrigation termination. All of the heat unit totals are up totals up to Sunday (8-21-11).
Clay- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF This field was has reached cut-out and has accumulated 467 heat units. We will look at this field to determine irrigation termination. This field is loaded up very well.
Craighead- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF The Craighead County field has also reached cut-out and gained 467 heat units. It also has a very good boll load. The bacterial blight in this field has not spread much.
Mississippi- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF This field has reached cut out and has gained 370 heat units. A late season application of Orthene at a rate of ¾ of a pound was applied last week to clean the field up from plant bugs. Although the field had surpassed the 250 heat unit cut off for plant bug applications, this field has a big crop in the top of the plant and I wanted to protect it. The plant bug population was also quite high as the corn around this field continues to dry down.
Lee Double Crop- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF The Lee County verification field has cut-out and has gained 82 heat units. We are still monitoring this field for insect pressure and the field looks good up to this point.
Phillips- Variety: UA 48 The Phillips County field has cut-out the week of July 25th. It has accumulated 662 heat units.
Lincoln- Variety: Stoneville 5458 B2RF The Lincoln County field has reached cut-out and has accumulated 460 heat units. An application of Karate at a rate of 1 gallon to 50 acres and ½ lb of Orthene were recommended after last Thursdays visits. A heavy bollworm flight had moved through the area and several eggs and live worms were found. We will also be determining irrigation termination for this field this week.
The Jefferson County field has reached cut out and has gained 410 heat units.
