General Comments: Warmer temperatures helped all of the cotton verifications look much better this week. All of the verifications are planted except the one in Lee County which will be double crop verification.
Clay- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF The Clay County field got off to a rough start and had some trouble with crusting and emergence, however it looked much better this week. Some small seedling weeds were beginning to break through so an application of glyphosate and Dual was recommended. The field was at the 2nd true leaf stage. Final plant population was 36,682 plants per acre.
Craighead- Variety: Deltapine 0912 B2RF The Craighead County field was up to a good stand at this week’s visit. The field was near the two leaf stage. Several spots of morning glories were found, so an application of glyphosate and Warrant is being applied for control. Final plant population was 35,627 plants per acre.
Mississippi- Variety:Deltapine 0912 B2RF The Mississippi County field was up to a good stand. The cotton was mostly still at the cotyledon stage but several true leaves were being found. The field will be scouted next week for weeds. Final plant population was 35,352 plants per acre.
St. Francis- Variety: Phytogen 375 WRF Several spots of teaweed and pigweed were found during this week’s visit. Glyphosate and Dual were recommended for control. Thrips were also found at threshold for treatment. Since it is not labeled for Dual to be applied with most of the products used for thrips control, a separate application of 3/10 of a pound acepehate will be made. Final plant population was 29,750 plants per acre.
Lee– The Lee County field has not been planted yet and will be double crop verification.
Phillips- Variety: UA 48 The Phillips County field was slower to emerge after the cold temperatures, but it is up to a stand. During last week’s visit, thrips were present and an application of 2/10 of a pound of acephate was applied for control. This seed was not treated. The field is still clean from the pre-emergence herbicides. Final plant population in this field was 28,750 plants per acre.
Lincoln- Variety: Stoneville 5458 B2RF The Lincoln County field is looking very well and is at the four leaf stage. Conditions are dry in that county so water furrows were pulled. If rain doesn’t come soon, irrigation will be needed since the plants will be starting to square. Two spots of pigweeds were found and the farmer was notified. Final plant population was at 37,100 plants per acre.
Jefferson- Variety: Stoneville 5458 B2RF The Jefferson County field was up to a good stand. The cotton was at the one and two true leaf stage. Some seedling weeds were beginning to come out, so an application of glyphosate and Dual was recommended. Final plant population was 35,500 plants per acre.
