Corn and Grain Sorghum Research Verification Program Weekly Update April 15, 2011
Author: Kevin Lawson, Program Associate - Corn & Grain Sorghum Verification

Rain has held up the planting of the last three Corn Verification fields in Faulkner, Greene and Lawrence/Randolph.  All the fields received at least two rains this week, one on Monday and one early Friday morning.  Chicot County received fertilize and a herbicide application of Halex GT + Atrazine earlier this week.  I should be able to do stand counts on Conway, Drew and Mississippi Counties next week.

The two grain sorghum fields were planted this week and the field in St Francis County has emerged.  I should be able to do stand counts on these two fields next week.

V4 4.5 inField had 72 gallons (252 units) of UAN knifed in on April 10. Grass and morningglories were starting to show up in the field so the producer sprayed 3.6 pints of Halex GT plus 1 quart of Atrazine on April 14. Field has a little damage from the wind, but it shouldn’t be a factor. Final plant stand is 31,950 plants per acre.
